NABAWAN: Support and involvement from all parties for persons with disabilities (PWDs) are crucial in building an inclusive and prosperous society.
Nabawan Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohamed Yassin said PWDs should be given the same opportunities and attention as others, particularly in education, skills training and sports activities.
He added that equal opportunities are important in enabling PWDs to be independent, build self-confidence and showcase their true potential.
Abdul Ghani was speaking at the launch of the 2025/2026 Community-Based Rehabilitation (PPDK) Sports Programme for the Keningau Division, held in Nabawan, recently.
His speech was read by Nabawan Community Development Leader Deckson Anthony Andipai.
As Chairman of the Sabah Land Development Board (LKTNS), Abdul Ghani also emphasised that sports programmes like this not only benefit participants’ physical health but also boost self-confidence and teamwork among PWDs.
The programme was also seen as an opportunity to strengthen ties among participants, their families, instructors and the local community.
At the sports carnival, PPDK Keningau emerged as the overall champion, followed by PPDK Tambunan in second place and PPDK Merampong in third.
Also present were Keningau Division Assistant Director of the Welfare Department Amirah Suarip, Keningau PWD and Elderly Coordinator Rizwan Suhaimi, Nabawan District Welfare Officer Santi Ramlie Tutu, and chairpersons of the interior PPDKs from Nabawan, Keningau, Tenom, Merampong and Tambunan.
