RANAU: Three local men were arrested on Saturday night after police discovered a homemade rifle (bakakuk) in their vehicle during a roadblock near Padang Bandaran Pekan Ranau.
The men, aged 19, 26, and 28, were stopped around 9.30pm while driving a suspicious white Perodua Axia along Jalan Ranau-Tambunan.
Officers from multiple Ranau police divisions, including Criminal Investigation, Narcotics, Traffic, and Crime Prevention, conducted the operation, which ran from 8.30pm to 10.30pm.
During a search, police found the firearm hidden in a package on the car’s bonnet. The suspects were arrested for lacking valid documents to possess the weapon, which was seized for investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a maximum of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine up to RM10,000, or both.
