KENINGAU: Flooding in Kampung Sandapak, Bingkor was caused by the overflow of the Kisaging River after a small culvert in a rice field drainage area became clogged with wood debris and rubbish, disrupting water flow during heavy rain, local authorities said.
The blockage led to river water spilling into nearby residential areas, affecting the home of resident Geofred Daigo and damaging the village’s rice field drainage system.

Bingkor state assemblyman and Sabah Assistant Finance Minister Mohd Ishak Ayub visited the affected area to inspect the drainage site, which has been identified as a recurring source of flooding, and to assess the need for remedial measures.
The inspection was attended by Bingkor Community Development Leader Lectus Fung, Irrigation and Drainage Department engineer Dechord Moujing, staff from the elected representative’s office and members of the Bingkor Community Development Leader Unit.
Officials said the review focused on identifying both short- and long-term solutions, including upgrading culvert capacity and carrying out regular drainage maintenance to reduce flood risks, particularly during the rainy season.
Mohd Ishak also visited Kampung Kota Ayangan, Kampung Bingkor Lama, Kampung Minansut and Kampung Tuntumulud to assess damage to public infrastructure, drainage systems and risks to resident safety.
Among the issues identified were a damaged gate in Kampung Kota Ayangan that poses a hazard to road users, flood-affected homes in Kampung Bingkor Lama, blocked drainage in Kampung Minansut, and road damage in Kampung Tuntumulud caused by water erosion.
In Kampung Tuntumulud, he inspected a temporary access route repaired by a concessionaire to ensure residents remained connected while awaiting permanent repair work.
Discussions were held with relevant agencies to determine appropriate repair mechanisms and immediate follow-up actions aimed at preventing recurrence.
