SANDAKAN: Pasar Dinihari, operating in the Pasar Umum Sandakan parking area, will be relocated to Pasar Borong Bandar Ramai-Ramai to ease congestion, improve hygiene, and better organize the city center, said Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) president Walter Kenson.
Originally allowed to operate temporarily in 2018, the market has grown into a wholesale and retail hub for fruits and vegetables, causing traffic issues and affecting other traders.

The new location offers wider parking, basic facilities, and incentives such as lower stall fees and longer operating hours—wholesale from 9pm to 9am and retail until noon.
The relocation, extended to 1 May 2026 after Hari Raya, will be fully managed by MPS. Of 132 active traders, 83—Malaysian wholesale and retail fruit and vegetable vendors—are eligible to move.
The move aims to present a cleaner, more organized, and tourist-friendly image of Sandakan.
