Knifing boyfriend: Filipina part-time cleaner charged

Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old Filipina part-time cleaner was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with assaulting her boyfriend with a knife.

Jolly An Regencia Baguinat pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to intentionally causing injury to one Harmin Faisal with the weapon between 1am and 2am on Dec 4, inside a unit at Cybercity Apartment.

The court set Feb 24, next year, for mention and released Jolly on a bail of RM3,000 in two sureties pending the date.

In another case, a 38-year-old woman was fined for engaging in online gambling activity.

Norrizah Jaimi pleaded guilty to committing the offence on Dec 12, at 4pm, at Inanam New Township, Jalan Kionsom, Inanam.

The charge under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months or both on conviction.

The court heard from the prosecution that a police team raided the place and arrested Norrizah, who confessed of committing the offence at the said area.

The police also seized the gambling paraphernalia from her.

The gambling expert’s report found that analysis of the seized items showed they were equipment used to carry out online gambling activities, the court heard.
