PUTATAN: A fire destroyed eight houses and damaged another in a stilt-house settlement at Kampung Pasir Putih here on Monday afternoon, with no injuries reported.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said it received a distress call at 1.35pm and brought the blaze under control by 2.33pm after deploying 38 personnel from Putatan, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu stations, supported by other agencies.

Firefighters used multiple hose lines with water supplied by engines, a tanker and nearby hydrants, and operations ended at 5.51pm after the area was declared safe.
