KUCHING: Sarawakians have been urged to view the 99.8-metre flagpole at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi as a source of pride and inspiration for other states.

(pic) said the structure has attracted attention and admiration from visitors.

He said the flagpole also impressed the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, during his visit to the Rainforest World Music Festival in 2024.
Abdul Karim said the Sultan was reportedly so fascinated that he instructed Selangor officials to build a similar structure in the state, but taller.
He added that the Sarawak flagpole project, which cost RM30 million and was funded by the state petroleum company Petros, is part of a larger complex with additional facilities.
