LAHAD DATU: The Mystical Bayu 2025 is preparing to introduce a fresh window into Lahad Datu’s rich landscapes and community life, especially in Segama through a curated familiarisation trip aimed at travellers, content creators and industry players.
Organised by Seri Borneo Resources in collaboration with KRA4 and Tourism Malaysia, the three-day programme aims to highlight the Segama’s natural beauty, cultural experiences and distinctive local lifestyle.
The event will also include participation from local influencers, namely Sakinah Vs Ondu, Syaiful Zero, Saful Maun, Edwan Abo and Qahirah who will help amplify Lahad Datu’s appeal as a destination worth discovering.
Managing Director of Seri Borneo, Mariati Uttok, said the initiative is designed as a continuous series beginning with Segama, which she views as a promising hub for eco-tourism.
She explained that Segama was chosen for its ancient caves, riverside scenery and the potential for homestay development that mirrors successful eco-tourism models.
Segama offers attractions such as the Gua Tepadung, natural trails for hiking and extreme sports opportunities, including ATV riding, offer best options for visitors seeking outdoor adventures, she added.
“We hope this programme will motivate more local stakeholders to further develop the homestay sector in Segama, which I believe has the qualities to grow as vibrantly as other well-known nature-based destinations in Sabah.
“Through this programme, participants will not only explore Segama but also be introduced to surrounding areas including Silam, with future editions planned to expand towards Tungku for activities such as stargazing and hiking,” she said.
According to Mariati, Tungku also holds strong potential for tourism growth, particularly through its coastal and hill-trail attractions waiting to be developed with the right platform.
She said the programme is not solely about tourism promotion but also aims to nurture local youth by teaching event and tourism management skills to the next generation in Lahad Datu.
She expressed her hope that Mystical Bayu 2025 will encourage more young people in Lahad Datu to participate in expanding the district’s tourism offerings, especially events with the potential to reach audiences beyond the region.
“I believe the involvement of influencers will help draw attention from nearby countries such as Indonesia and Brunei, where many of them have established followings.
“We see this programme as a new platform that gives Lahad Datu the opportunity to showcase its strengths while encouraging tourism development in surrounding rural districts,” she said.
Mariati hopes the experience will encourage more travellers to appreciate Lahad Datu’s especially Segama blend of nature, culture and community spirit.
