TONGOD: Upko’s candidate for Kuamut Mohina Sidom’s decision, to contest stems from being the go-to person for the Kuamut community in handling daily official matters.
It began five years ago when she became a Commissioner for Oaths, where she witnessed the hardships and struggles of the people from matters involving important documents and family issues to basic necessities.
From there, Mohina became determined to enter the political arena so that the voices and concerns she had heard over the past five years could be brought to a higher platform.
Mohina, who is also the Upko Women’s Chief, said she came to know the people not only during political seasons, but through the issues they brought to her.
“Every day I face the people’s problems from financial hardship and land issues to welfare concerns and job opportunities. I help in every way I can.
“That is where I learned what the people truly need,” she said.
Mohina, an accounts graduate of Universiti Sains Malaysia once served as an exchange student at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, USA.
Her involvement in politics began in 2019 when she became the Upko Kinabatangan Division Women’s Chief.
“I come from a profession that requires integrity. I carry that value into politics. If given the mandate, I want to ensure that the people of Kuamut have a representative who truly works for them,” she said.
