An end to Bingkor’s flood woes
New culvert is almost ready to face the next rainy season in the district.
KENINGAU: The construction of a new culvert replacing the old structure that caused flooding in a village here is hoped to bring an end to rising water level issues that’s been plaguing the people in Bingkor these past years.

Previously, a small culvert on the main road had created a “bottle neck” situation, causing water flow to be uneven every time it rained heavily. The water that was stuck, especially during heavy rains, eventually overflowed and flooded the yard, thus affecting the daily life of villagers here.

Now, a larger concrete culvert has been installed to ensure that the water flow is more regular and smooth, thus reducing water pressure in the narrow area that was previously the main cause of overflow.

For the local residents, this is not just a small project — but a long-awaited solution. One of the residents here, Geofred Daigo, expressed his appreciation to the authorities, especially the Bingkor Assemblyman, Dato’ Sr Mohd Ishak Ayub, for the actions taken to resolve the issue.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Keningau District Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) for the implementation of field work which was deemed efficient and concerned about the needs of the local people.

According to him, the assistance provided was not just a promise, but a tangible solution — presented at the right time when the problem had been going on for a long time.

“This implementation reflects an action-based leadership approach — listening, understanding and solving the people’s problems at the grassroots level.

“In the interior, solutions like this carry a meaning far greater than their value — it is proof that the people’s voices are still reaching, still being heard, and still being fought for,” he said.
