Kota Kinabalu: A group of young Sabahans called on all State-based political parties to publicly pledge their dedication to Sabah-centred governance ahead of Saturday’s election.
The youth movement, comprising the Sabah Youth Advancement Network, Gerakan Anak Sabah and Sabah Youth Movement, operates as a non-partisan platform called Sabah local Coalition Commitment Agreement founded on the principle that active youth participation is vital to Sabah’s future development.
The initiative responds to rising concerns about political instability following elections and outside interference in State affairs.
It points the need for local leadership to protect Sabah’s constitutional rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Political parties are invited to sign the Declaration individually, demonstrating to voters their commitment to putting Sabah’s interests above party politics or personal gain.
The youths said Sabah, particularly at the State Legislative Assembly-level, should be governed by Sabahans.
They believe locally-driven leadership will deliver more effective and lasting results that reflect the state’s distinct needs and aspirations.
The group urged all Sabah-based political parties to endorse the Declaration as proof of their commitment to upholding the state’s dignity, autonomy and democratic principles.
