LAHAD DATU: Two men and a woman were killed while an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured in a collision involving a Toyota Innova and a 30-tonne trailer lorry on Jalan Dewata, Pondok Ketam, here, Monday.
The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call following the 1.25pm incident and deployed a nine-member team to the scene with an engine and an EMRS vehicle.

Upon arrival, they found an Innova travelling towards Kunak from Lahad Datu had collided with a trailer lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
The Innova was dragged for about 30 metres after the crash.
“Four victims were found trapped in the Innova. Health Ministry officials confirmed its 56-year-old male driver, a 43-year-old male passenger and a 39-year-old female passenger died at the scene, while an eight-year-old boy suffered serious injuries.
“The Fire and Rescue team worked to free the victims who were trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle using specialised rescue tools,” said the department.
According to the department, the trailer lorry’s driver escaped unhurt.
The injured boy was rushed to the hospital for treatment, while the three deceased victims were handed over to the police for further action.
In KUNAK, a man died and three others were seriously injured when the Isuzu D-Max four-wheel-drive they were travelling in skidded and plunged into a six-metre deep ravine on Jalan Kunak-Tawau, Monday morning.
Kunak Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Mohamad Omarbatha said a team of six firefighters, along with an engine and the Emergency Services Assistance Unit, were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 4.15am.
He said when the team arrived at the scene at 4.38am, they found the vehicle at the bottom of the slope with four victims trapped inside.
“A victim identified as Herdin Basri was confirmed dead at the scene by the Health Ministry team, and his body was handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
The three other victims — Rahman Sulaiman, 39, an Indonesian national; Mohd Ali Gapare, 35; and Mohd Hafiz Haling, 28 — sustained semi-critical injuries.
They were taken to Tawau Hospital and Kunak Hospital for treatment.
