Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will establish a new Faculty of Law after the Federal Cabinet agreed to lift the moratorium on opening new law programmes specifically for Sabah and Sarawak.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the decision was made during a recent Cabinet meeting, allowing UMS to proceed with setting up the faculty to meet growing local demand for legal education.
“I would like to announce that in the recent Cabinet meeting, I requested that the moratorium on new law programmes be lifted specifically for Sabah and Sarawak. The Cabinet agreed and UMS can now open a new Faculty of Law,” he said.
Zambry made the announcement during his working visit to UMS for the opening of the newly revived Block B1 and B2 student hostels at Kolej Kediaman Pelajar UMS at Kg Numbak, Saturday.
