KOTA KINABALU: Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal called on the Sabah Government to plug financial leakages and redirect public funds to those who need them most, pointing out that soaring fuel costs and global trade disruptions are about to hit the State’s people and businesses hard.
“Sabah’s RM6.4 billion budget is too large to excuse inaction,” he told a media conference after officiating the Likas Constituency Service Centre’s opening at Wisma KKM in Likas, Saturday.
“There should not be so much leakage. The operating costs for Sabah is very large. If I look at the salaries, there are appointed officers who have no role at all. I think this must be redirected to where the finances are needed by the people,” he said.
He pointed out the immediate impact of the recent petrol price rise, noting that it had jumped by 60 sen in a single day to above RM3.
