KOTA KINABALU: The Pakatan Harapan Api-Api campaign operations centre in Asia City saw a steady stream of visitors seeking cash handouts, rice and food baskets Friday morning.
Some claimed they were instructed to collect these items from the office.
The centre clarified that it does not distribute cash, gifts, food baskets, or any form of material assistance.
“While we appreciate the enthusiasm, our campaign is committed to running a clean and fair election, without giving out freebies in exchange for votes,” said election committee secretary Lucas Yong.
Lucas said election laws strictly prohibit offering material incentives for votes, and the campaign stressed that any claims suggesting otherwise may be part of misinformation or deliberate political sabotage aimed at confusing voters.
He urged the public to verify information through official channels, and not be influenced by unofficial rumors or political games.
“The centre remains open for voter-related services, including checking voter registration, locating polling stations, providing election information, and sharing candidate profiles.” he added.
