LABUAN: The Labuan Health Department issued five Notice 32B compounds totalling RM16,500 and seized various food products worth RM539.90 during a joint enforcement operation conducted here in conjunction with the Ramadan sales season.
Labuan Health Department Director Dr Francis Paul said the total value of enforcement action recorded came to RM17, 039.90, with 124 units of goods spanning 15 item categories confiscated for suspected non-compliance with food safety regulations.
Eight supermarkets were inspected during the operation, with four premises subjected to enforcement action involving the seizure and confiscation of food products.
Enforcement under the Control of Tobacco Product for Public Health Act was also carried out, resulting in the seizure of 47 cartons of cigarette products valued at RM4, 983.90.
Two notices of offence were issued against two supermarkets in connection with the tobacco violations.
The operation involved 40 enforcement personnel from the Labuan Health Department, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, the Jabatan Agama Islam and the Labuan Corporation.
Dr Francis said operations of this nature are conducted to ensure food safety standards and compliance with public health legislation are consistently upheld.
He advised traders to always observe food hygiene and safety regulations to avoid enforcement action by the authorities.
