Kota Kinabalu: The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch says the launch of the Sabah Electricity Supply Application Handbook (ESAH 2.0) is a key step toward ensuring Sabah is better positioned to meet future demands for reliable, resilient and safe electricity supply.
The handbook, launched on Wednesday at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), outlines updated technical standards, clearer procedures and improved guidelines designed to support long-term planning and smoother execution of electrical works statewide.
Representing IEM Sabah at the event was Ir. Ts. Tan KJ, JP, Vice Chairman I, who attended on behalf of the branch.
In a statement, IEM Sabah said ESAH 2.0 reflects SESB’s proactive effort to strengthen the state’s power ecosystem at a time when Sabah’s socioeconomic growth increasingly depends on dependable electricity infrastructure.
The branch noted that improved clarity, modernised requirements and a more user-friendly framework will help engineers, developers and industry players navigate processes more efficiently.
According to IEM Sabah, SESB’s initiative supports better coordination, enhances transparency in application procedures and reinforces safety standards underpinning the broader electricity network.
“The introduction of ESAH 2.0 is a timely and progressive step that supports stronger planning, better communication and smoother implementation of electrical works across Sabah,” the statement said.
IEM Sabah also acknowledged the contribution of SESB’s engineering team, citing its technical work and ongoing commitment to system improvements.
The branch expressed readiness to continue collaborating with SESB, especially in fields involving professional development, competency enhancement and industry-wide best practices.
With ESAH 2.0 established as the new reference point for supply applications, Sabah is expected to be in a stronger position to meet rising electricity needs while supporting sustainable development, industrial expansion and long-term economic resilience.
IEM Sabah reiterated its congratulations to SESB and affirmed its support for future initiatives aimed at strengthening power infrastructure for the benefit of Sabah and Labuan.
