Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s rice supply remains sufficient and at a safe level despite reports of shortages in several districts recently.
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar (

He said the supply becomes more stable when combined with commercial stocks, supplies held by wholesalers and available local rice.
According to him, the total rice supply in Sabah could last up to nine months when all sources of stocks are taken into account.
Jamawi said the Ministry had contacted Sabah Bernas, which manages and distributes rice supplies in the State, and was informed that the shortages reported in certain districts were only temporary while new shipments are being delivered by appointed suppliers.
