Tuaran: Sabah is stepping up efforts to improve the efficiency of energy services and upgrade electricity supply infrastructure to ensure a more stable, sustainable and resilient power system in the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Haji Noor said the State Government continues to support initiatives taken by Sabah Electricity in this regard.

He said ongoing efforts include increasing power generation capacity, strengthening transmission and distribution networks, and improving service quality for consumers.
“This commitment is in line with the State Government’s aspiration to provide a stable and sustainable electricity supply to drive development and ensure the well-being of the people,” he said, at the Seikhlas Budi, Sesuci Ramadan programme with the Chief Minister at Masjid At-Taqwa on Saturday. Also present was Saadiah Aziz, Chairperson of Sabah Electricity.
Hajiji said the State Government, through the Sabah Energy Council, Energy Commission of Sabah and related agencies, is implementing comprehensive strategies in phases involving short-, medium- and long-term plans to strengthen the state’s energy supply system.
Among the key initiatives are the development of new power generation projects involving a more diverse energy mix, including the use of gas-based power plants as a transitional energy source.
He added that the government is also placing emphasis on renewable energy development such as hydro, solar and wind, as well as the use of modern energy storage technology including Battery Energy Storage Systems and pumped-storage hydro.
Hajiji said the Sabah–Sarawak power grid interconnection project launched earlier this year is expected to further strengthen the stability of Sabah’s electricity supply system.
The project would not only make energy supply more stable and reliable but also help gradually reduce dependence on fossil fuel-based power generation.
“At the same time, it will increase the state’s electricity reserve margin and boost investor confidence in the reliability of Sabah’s power supply.”
He added that the recent launch of a 15-megawatt solar project in Tuaran is also an important step in transforming the state’s energy structure.
The project will not only increase Sabah’s electricity supply capacity but also supports the implementation of the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040, which emphasises renewable energy development and diversification of energy sources.
“Without a stable and sufficient energy supply, it will be difficult for us to attract high-impact investments and develop value-added industries,” he said.
Hajiji also commended the commitment of Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Sabah Electricity for carrying out corporate social responsibility through Wakalah Zakat contributions to asnaf groups, mosques and tahfiz institutions in Tuaran.
He said the programme not only benefits those in need but also strengthens ties between the government, agencies and the local community.
