KINABATANGAN: Three state seats in Kinabatangan saw crowded contests on Saturday, with up to eight candidates in some constituencies as parties and independents geared up for the Sabah state election.
Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin arrived at the nomination centre with Sukau candidate Datuk Jafry Arifin, drawing a large group of supporters who gathered to back their leaders.
In Lamag, four newcomers joined the race while former assemblyman Mohd Ismail Ayob returned as an Independent after missing out on a GRS ticket, setting up a six-way contest in the seat once held narrowly by Bung.
Kuamut recorded the busiest line-up with an eight-cornered fight involving incumbent Datuk Masiung Banah, two returning candidates and five first-time contenders hoping to make inroads.
Sukau rounded off the day with a seven-way contest led by incumbent Datuk Jafry, with the full list of candidates confirmed by returning officer Yuesri Ismail Yusof at Dewan Sri Lamag.
