KINABATANGAN: A total of 39 express bus passengers faced a harrowing ordeal when the bus they were travelling in veered off the road and crashed on its side near Kampung Paris 2, Jalan Sandakan-Lahad Datu, here, on Sunday.

The incident took place about 11.40am while the bus was on a journey from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan.

District Police Chief Supt D. Ravi said the incident occurred when the bus driver reportedly swerved to avoid a motorcycle which had suddenly exited a junction on the left side of the road.

“The driver could not ascertain the make, model nor registration plate number of the motorcycle. The driver had to swerve to avoid the motorcycle and ended up veering to the side of the road,” he said.

However, Ravi said the driver and his 39 passengers were left unscathed.
