Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan has pledged to establish a fully equipped Cardiology Centre in Tawau if given the mandate to govern, positioning the district as Sabah’s main hub for heart treatment.
Warisan Health Adviser Dr Istefan Koh said the move would ensure that patients from the east coast no longer need to travel to Kota Kinabalu or Kuala Lumpur for cardiac care.
“Tawau will become the state’s main cardiology hub so that patients can receive treatment closer to home. This initiative will ensure that people in Sabah no longer have to travel to Kota Kinabalu or the peninsula to receive heart treatment,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 6).
He said there is currently no cardiology facility on Sabah’s east coast, forcing patients from Tawau, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Semporna, Beluran and Kinabatangan to travel hundreds of kilometres for specialised care.
