SANDAKAN: Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) is set to contest at least two seats in the Sandakan area for the coming Sabah election.
KDM Deputy President Datuk Wetrom Bahanda said the party will officially announce its candidates on Nov 13 at the Palace Hotel in Kota Kinabalu.
“Even though KDM is a small party, we aim to strengthen our voice and maximise our wins, while aligning with the ruling government after the election,” Wetrom said after attending a luncheon with the Chinese community, here, on Tuesday.
He said the Sabah-based party is gaining support across communities, including the Chinese, who see KDM as a platform for inclusive, local representation.
Wetrom noted that several seats will be contested by Chinese candidates, including the Sri Tanjung seat in Tawau, expected to be contested by Basel Mission President Ricky Hong.
He said KDM’s leadership also includes a deputy president role representing the Chinese community, highlighting the party’s commitment to multiracial inclusivity.
Wetrom added that the party’s acceptance among non-Kadazan-Dusun-Murut communities has been increasing through statewide engagements since last year.
“Initially, KDM was mainly associated with the Kadazan-Dusun-Murut community, but now it is gaining wider support. We’re seeing a strong wave of positive response in every area,” he said.
