SANDAKAN: The dragon boat race for the island zone of Batu Sapi should be included in Sandakan’s annual tourism calendar, said Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan.
He said the event not only strengthens community ties among island residents but also promotes cultural diversity through water sports tourism.
Khairul said Pasir Putih, which has become a popular weekend leisure spot, will continue to be enhanced to support such community and tourism activities.
He made the remarks after officiating the Motac with Community Dragon Boat Race at Pasir Putih, organised with the Sandakan Creative Arts Practitioners Association and Batu Sapi Parliamentary Service Centre.
Fifteen men’s teams and five women’s teams took part, with Kampung Baru and Kampung Terusan Baru emerging as overall winners in their respective categories.
