Kota Kinabalu: Preparations for the 11th FCAS International Dragon Boat Race 2026 are officially underway following the launch ceremony on 25 March, with training for registered teams set to begin on 26 March ahead of the two-day event in May.
The ceremony at the Kinabalu Yacht Club was attended by FCAS President Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr.) T. C. Goh, Organising Chairlady Datuk Susan Wong, and FCAS leaders and committee members.
During the launch, Wong beat the drum at the bow of the dragon boat while Goh, Deputy Presidents Datuk Ng Young Wah and Haw Yong Sai, Chang Jeng Yung, Treasurer Chen Ee Sheng, and Youth and Women committee members paddled together, creating a spectacular scene.
Registered teams will be able to train daily from 26 March to 15 May at the Kinabalu Yacht Club between 8am and 6pm.
The race, scheduled for 16 and 17 May, will feature 10 categories with total prize money of RM95,000.
These include the Sabah Head of State Trophy, Sabah Chief Minister’s Trophy, Sabah FCAS Dragon Trophy, FCAS Trophy for mixed and men’s teams, Kinabalu Junior Trophy, Kinabalu Dragon Trophy for men, Kinabalu Mix Trophy, Kinabalu Phoenix Trophy for women, and Kinabalu Master Trophy for veterans.
Fringe activities to promote Dragon Boat Festival culture will include a sunset beach party, creative dumpling display competition, dumpling-wrapping demonstrations, and the 5th FCAS Youth Dragon Boat Fun Run.
Preliminary races will be held on 16 May, followed by the fun run in the afternoon, with the finals scheduled for 17 May.
