KOTA KINABALU: City Hall (DBKK) announced that the Tun Fuad Stephens Botanical Park in Bukit Padang will reopen to the public starting Monday (Oct 27) following a comprehensive safety assessment of ongoing construction works.
The reopening follows a pre-opening “Brisk Walk” inspection, which confirmed that major construction activities have ended, with current works focused on finishing touches.
DBKK said the main jogging and hiking trails are now open, except for Hiking Trail No. 2, which remains closed due to active works near the Botanical Centre.
The park will operate daily from 6am to 7pm.
However, several areas including the Botanical Centre, Commercial Plaza, Boardwalk, Lake Walk, Conservatory Park, Bamboo Corner, and Herb Garden will remain closed for safety reasons.
DBKK warned that trespassing into restricted zones is strictly prohibited and that the city hall will not be responsible for any accidents or injuries resulting from violations.
The contractor for the Tun Fuad Stephens Botanical Park Development Project has been fined RM2,704.61 per day since July 15 for delays in completing the project.
DBKK urged visitors to follow safety guidelines and maintain cleanliness to preserve the park’s environment.
