Kota Kinabalu: A 42-year-old man was fined a total of RM21,000 for producing three fake bank statements to the Sabah Education Department to get contracts to supply cooked food to a school in Kota Marudu.
Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat handed the sentence to Jonid Gunsalam who pleaded guilty to the three charges against him, Friday.
Jonid was fined RM7,000 or three months’ jail for each charge against him.
On the first to third count, Jonid had submitted the three fake bank statements dated July 31, Aug 31, and Sept 30, 2016 under Syarikat Pembenaan Azfar Aiman for the purpose to obtain the tender to supply cooked food for hostel of SK Koromoko in Kota Marudu in which the tender was from March 1, 2017 until Feb 28, 2019.
Jonid produced the fake bank statements to the State Education Department, here on Nov 24, 2016.
The offence under Section 471 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 468 of the same Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Prosecuting Officer Norsham Saharom from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) appeared for the prosecution while counsel Edward Paul defended Jonid.
