KENINGAU: The Keningau District Schools Sports Council (MSSD) Under-12 rugby team has cemented its standing as the dominant force in Sabah primary school rugby, winning the MSS Sabah Under-12 Rugby Championship for a record fifth consecutive year.
The three-day tournament, held at the Penampang Sports Complex, drew 18 teams from across Sabah.
The back-to-back title further strengthened Keningau’s reputation as one of the State’s premier primary school rugby powers, built on consistent grassroots talent development over several years.
The Keningau contingent led by Keningau District Education Officer Suhaimi @ Suhaini Matshah, supported by a full complement of officials and coaches, is credited with maintaining the team’s winning standard.
The championship-winning squad was made up of 12 young players drawn from several schools across the district, namely, five from SK Kampong Biah, four from SK Pasir Puteh and one each from SK Ulu Senagang, SK Kebulu and SK Manisat.
Under-12 Rugby Technical Officer Ruddy Daupin attributed the achievement to the sustained commitment of the Keningau District Education Office, particularly its Sports Unit and Pupil Management Sector, in strengthening rugby development at the primary school level.

“Efforts to produce more talented young players will continue to ensure Keningau remains a top contender in state-level rugby in the years ahead,” Ruddy said.
