TAWAU: The Marine Police seized 2,000 litres of diesel worth nearly RM10,000 from a tanker lorry during an inspection by the roadside at Kampung Aman, Tanjung Batu, on Friday.
The Tawau Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry said the total seizure, including a 10,000-litre capacity Nissan tanker lorry, was estimated at nearly RM160,000.
The seized items and an initial case report were handed over by the Marine Police to the Tawau ministry branch on the same day for further action.
The ministry said the controlled fuel was believed to be meant for smuggling to a neighbouring country, while the lorry driver was detained to assist investigations under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
It reminded companies and individuals to comply with the Act, adding that the public may lodge information or complaints through e-aduan.gov.my, call 089-776690, or send WhatsApp messages to 019-279 4317 or 019-848 8000.
