KENINGAU: The single men’s team showed off their fierce performance when they beat the married men’s team with an extraordinary 12-1 result in a football match in conjunction with the 2026 Sandapak Village Level Kaamatan Festival Celebration at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bingkor Field recently.

The annual traditional match, which is the focus of the villagers, was lively with the cheers of spectators who filled the side of the field from the beginning of the game.

The organiser’s spokesperson, Jefferinus Jitoh Mikat, said that the competition was one of the main contents of the Kaamatan programme to strengthen community ties through sports and leisure activities.

According to him, the annual event not only invigorated the spirit of sportsmanship, but also became a platform to bring together the village children in an atmosphere of harmony and full of togetherness.

On the field, the single men’s team clearly dominated the game through their superior energy, speed and more organised combinations, successfully scoring goal after goal without being blocked by the opponent.

On the other hand, the married men’s team, which tried to rely on experience, was seen losing its rhythm when lack of stamina began to affect their playing style.

Several attacking moves also failed to be completed after being easily broken by the single team’s defence, who were quick to read every move of the opponent.

The cheers of the audience grew louder every time a goal was scored, with some even joking that the married men’s team “ran out of breath before the final whistle was blown”.

Despite the 12-1 result, the match once again proved that Kaamatan is not just a harvest festival, but a space to unite the village community through laughter, healthy competition and memories that will continue to be told from one generation to the next.
