Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) has gathered key insights from industrial agencies and parks in Sarawak to shape practical strategies for the upcoming Kudat Blue Economy Industrial Park (KBEIP) under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) framework.
The delegation, led by Group General Manager Datuk James Wong and Deputy Group General Manager Azrul alongside the KBEIP project team, visited four major institutions in Sarawak, namely the Bintulu Development Authority, Regional Corridor Development Authority, Samalaju Industrial Park and Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad.
The visit was aimed at exchanging knowledge, benchmarking practices, and identifying approaches that could inform the planning and development of KBEIP, which is intended to anchor Sabah’s industrial and export growth under the SMJ framework.
Among the key lessons drawn from Sarawak’s experience were the value of long-term masterplanning, infrastructure readiness, and coordinated government support in building competitive industrial ecosystems.
The delegation also studied how integrated clusters combining utilities, logistics, SME participation, workforce development, and downstream industries have helped Sarawak attract high-value investments.
Sedco said the visit also provided exposure to investment facilitation models, industrial park governance structures, and regional industry networking strategies that could be adapted for Sabah’s context, particularly in building ties with major industrial players across Southeast Asia to attract anchor investors and strategic partners.
