KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas today officiated the soft opening of Batang Lupar Bridge No.1, in Sebuyau.
The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) said the bridge is one of Sarawak’s most iconic infrastructure projects and is the longest river-crossing bridge in Malaysia.
“The project involves the construction of a 4.8 kilometre two-lane single carriageway bridge. The project carries a contract sum of RM848,745,087.50 and connects Sebuyau and Triso, providing a safer, faster and uninterrupted transportation link for surrounding communities along the coastal corridor,” the department said in a statement today.
The completion of the bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve logistics and transportation efficiency, and open up greater opportunities for economic, agricultural and tourism development between Sebuyau, Triso and the surrounding areas, it added.
In his remarks during the soft opening ceremony today, Uggah highlighted that the bridge symbolises Sarawak’s continuous commitment towards strengthening connectivity, stimulating socio-economic growth and improving accessibility for the people, particularly in the coastal regions.
