Kota Kinabalu: Some 170 delegates, half of them from overseas, gathered for the Soroptimist International South East Asia Pacific (Siseap) Conference of Clubs (COC) 2026 to exchange ideas on women’s empowerment and sustainable community development.
The three-day conference from May 1 brings together participants from 13 countries, including Australia, Cambodia, New Zealand, Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Samoa, Singapore and Papua New Guinea, along with invited guests from the global Soroptimist network. Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the conference serves as an important platform for women from diverse backgrounds to share experiences and develop practical solutions to issues affecting women, children and families.
She said such gatherings often lead to meaningful outcomes, as women are highly committed to addressing social challenges and introducing initiatives that benefit communities.
“My hope is that this conference will generate fresh ideas and practical solutions that we can adopt locally. There are still many women who need support, and we appreciate the continued advocacy by Soroptimist International,” she told the media after officiating the conference, here, Saturday.
