KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) has distributed RM48,000 to six mosques in the state capital to support religious activities and cover utility costs.
State Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, said enlivening mosques remains a key priority of the state government through close collaboration between Muis and the State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains).
“Beyond physical development, we are also focusing on strengthening mosque activities through various religious programmes and community initiatives.
“Jheains also monitors the implementation of projects related to Islamic affairs, including ongoing and planned efforts,” he said after attending the Majlis Mahabbah Bersama Agensi-Agensi Islam Negeri Sabah 2026M/1447H recently.
The event was attended by Head of State Tun Musa Aman and his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, who also presented contributions to 17 asnaf recipients.
Tun Musa officiated the presentation of contributions to mosque chairpersons from Masjid Bandar Kota Kinabalu, Masjid Nurul Hikmah Bukit Padang, Masjid Daerah Putatan, Masjid Jamek Putatan, Masjid As-Sobirin Kampung Sipanggil, and Masjid Al-Hilal Tanjung Dumpil.

“This aligns with efforts to strengthen the overall development of Islamic affairs in Sabah.
“The development of mosques, religious education, and the economic empowerment of the Muslim community remain key priorities,” he said.
The event drew more than 500 participants from 17 religious agencies, aimed at strengthening ties and cooperation among organisations.
Also present were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Isnin Aliasnih; Muis President Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin; Jheains Director Datuk Awang Juri Ag Tahir; Muis Deputy President Datuk Malai Ali Malai Ahmad; and Muis Secretary Datuk Ramlan Awang Ali.
