Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has taken a significant step in healthcare with the launch of the Malaysian Children’s Hospice Kota Kinabalu (MCHKK), the first of its kind in the State, aimed at supporting children with life-limiting conditions and their families through community-based care.
The hospice, an initiative by the Malaysian Association of Paediatric Palliative Care (Mappac), was officially launched on Saturday, representing a shift from hospital-centred treatment to a more compassionate model that extends care into homes and communities.
Officiating on behalf of Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, his representative said the initiative reflects the need to prioritise dignity and quality of life alongside medical treatment.
“While medical advancements continue to evolve, we must recognise that some children require not curative treatment, but care that prioritises comfort, dignity and quality of life,” he said.
