LABUAN: The Deep Sea Challenge under the Labuan International Sea Challenge (LISC) 2026 has marked the official commencement of the event, which will run until May 3.
Participants were flagged off by Labuan Corporation Chief Executive Officer Rithuan Mohd Ismail to the waters of Terumbu Ubi, Terumbu Siput, and the area between Pulau Layang-Layang and Terumbu Semarang Barat Besar.
He said the deep sea fishing competition attracted 169 local participants and 55 international participants from Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, Australia and China.
He added that all catches from the competition will be auctioned on May 3.
He said the annual tourism event continues to draw both local and international participation, generating economic impact particularly for the hospitality and transport sectors, while promoting Labuan as a sports tourism destination.
He also recalled that LISC 2025 was a memorable edition that reinforced Labuan’s position as a world-class water sports destination.
He noted that one of the highlights of the previous event was the successful landing of a 230kg black marlin, a species rarely caught in earlier editions.
He urged the public and water sports enthusiasts worldwide to support LISC 2026, saying it offers an opportunity to be part of the event’s history.
