PENAMPANG: The recent increase in business licensing fees by the Penampang District Council should be implemented in stages to ease the burden on traders and small businesses, says Upko Youth leader Allison Chan.
She said the hike, now calculated based on square footage, has resulted in a sharp increase for many operators.
“An average office would see its fee increase to at least RM215, from RM25. For other types of shops, the increase is even higher, in most cases exceeding 100 per cent,” she told Daily Express.
Allison said the increase has raised concerns among traders, SMEs and the wider public, particularly as many are already dealing with rising operational costs, inflation and uncertain consumer demand.
