ECoS Sandakan squatter raids uncover illegal electricity
SANDAKAN: Authorities raided two squatter settlements in Tinusa 1 and Pangiran Galpam in a joint operation led by the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) to curb electricity theft and illegal power activities.

More than 50 officers from multiple agencies, including police, Immigration, local council, water department and Sabah Electricity, took part in the operation.

ECoS said six investigation papers were opened under the Sabah Electricity Supply Enactment 2024, covering offences such as electricity theft, illegal resale of power, and unauthorised connections.

Offenders face fines of up to RM1 million or imprisonment depending on the offence, with authorities noting that similar cases in Sepanggar are already being prosecuted in court.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
ECoS said enforcement operations will continue to protect the integrity of Sabah’s electricity supply system.
