KOTA KINABALU: Banggi assemblyman Datuk Mohammad Mohamarin has proposed establishing a “Sabah Development Region” divided into six zones to reduce uneven development across the state and improve coordinated planning under Sabah Maju Jaya.
Debating in the State Legislative Assembly, he said the framework would help ensure more balanced growth between urban, rural, and underserved areas.
“We are concerned that some areas continue to progress while others are left behind,” he said.
He added that the zoning system could streamline investment, infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, and industrial planning, with each zone anchored by key development projects to stimulate local economies.
Mohammad also raised several needs for Pulau Banggi, including faster approval of a community hall and sports complex, road upgrades, improved ferry services, a fire station, and an ambulance boat for the local clinic.
