Kota Kinabalu: A parking fee policy set to be enforced in the Kapayan Ridge area from May 1, has drawn public dissatisfaction.
City Hall has put up banners in the area and issued notices on vehicles to inform that the parking fees will be enforced from next month.
Kapayan Assemblyman Chin Tek Ming, opposed the Kota Kinabalu City Hall’s move, citing current economic conditions and rising cost of living.
“The introduction of additional charges at this time is not appropriate given existing financial pressures on the public,” he said in a statement.
He said increasing prices of goods have already placed a burden on households.
Chin said authorities should prioritise measures to address livelihood concerns rather than impose additional costs.
He called on City Hall to review the policy and undertake broader public consultation.
Local traders and residents have expressed concern that the charges may affect consumer spending and business activity.
