Kota Kinabalu: The Gagasan Rakyat Youth wing has lodged a police report over a viral social media post alleging that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had ceded parts of Pulau Sebatik to Indonesia, describing the claim as baseless and defamatory.
Youth chief Datuk Azrul Ibrahim, who is also Chief Political Secretary in the Chief Minister's Department, said the report was filed at the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters to enable authorities to investigate those responsible for spreading the allegations.
He said the accusations, circulated via a
Facebook post and comments, falsely suggested that Sabah territory had been handed over to Indonesia and warned that such unverified claims could mislead the public and create unnecessary tension.
Azrul also urged the Federal Government, particularly Wisma Putra, to issue a clear explanation on the Pulau Sebatik issue and called for firm action under existing laws, including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, against those responsible for spreading false information.
The controversy follows conflicting reports over a 127.3-hectare area on Pulau Sebatik, with Indonesia’s Presidential Staff Office reportedly claiming ownership while its Ambassador to Malaysia, Raden Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo, said the area remains under negotiation and not under Indonesian control.
