TAWAU: An animal rescuer here said he was shocked and at a loss for words after discovering the carcass of a tied dog at the old Tawau Airport (LTLT) area at about 6.30am on Wednesday.
Ringo Chung, who has been involved in animal rescue work for over a decade, said he made the discovery when he went to check on six puppies he had attempted to save after they were poisoned the previous day.
He said he usually visits the area in the evenings after work to feed stray dogs but had instead come in the morning and encountered another case of animal cruelty.
He said he had found six puppies fed with food laced with rat poison on Tuesday and administered initial treatment by giving them raw eggs in an effort to save them.
Ringo said he was concerned over the increasing cases of cruelty against stray dogs, including in the LTLT and Jalan Utara areas, noting that similar incidents had occurred previously with several dogs found dead, believed to have been poisoned.
He said he plans to install solar-powered CCTV cameras to monitor the situation and identify those responsible, adding that no one occupies the building area.

He also expressed disappointment over the lack of follow-up action despite reports previously lodged with the authorities, while urging the public to be more compassionate towards stray animals and calling for more individuals to assist in rescue efforts.
