Kuala Lumpur: Three civil servants from an enforcement agency in a district in Sabah have been remanded for seven days from today to assist in investigations into a RM500,000 bribery case believed to have occurred between 2022 and 2024.
The alleged bribes were in return for not taking enforcement action against lorries found committing offences under the Road Transport Act 1987.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum at the Tawau Magistrate’s Court after allowing an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
According to a source, the three men, aged in their 40s and 50s, were arrested between 4 pm and 5 pm yesterday when they turned up to give statements at the MACC Tawau branch office.
“Preliminary investigations found that all the suspects are believed to have committed the offences between 2022 and 2024 and received bribes through money transfers into their respective personal bank accounts.
“The suspects, comprising two officers and one enforcement personnel, are also believed to have received monthly payments ranging from about RM500 to RM30,000 each from several heavy vehicle companies,” the source told

Meanwhile, MACC Senior Deputy Director (Operations Control and Coordination) Investigation Division Datuk Yuhafiz Mohd Salleh, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
