KENINGAU: A 21-year-old woman was killed while her husband was seriously injured in a crash involving a lorry and a motorcycle along Jalan Nabawan-Sapulut near Kampung Sarikan on Wednesday night.
The victim, identified as Marlyana Baulun, died at the scene from head injuries.
Her husband, Dendey Ampat, 27, sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Keningau Hospital.
District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the accident occurred at about 7.45pm.
Initial investigations found that the motorcycle was travelling from Nabawan towards Sapulut when it was struck from behind by a lorry.
“The impact caused the pillion rider to die at the scene while the rider suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital,” he said.

Police believe the lorry driver may have failed to pay proper attention to the road ahead.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
