TAWAU: Police have arrested three teenagers, aged 15 and 16, in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl last Sunday.
The arrests, which included the primary suspect and two alleged accomplices, took place at the Merotai Police Post on Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours after a report was filed by the victim’s mother.
Investigations reveal that the victim, a Form 3 student, was allegedly taken by a Form 5 student in a vehicle to a house where the assault occurred.
The incident came to light after the girl confided in her school guidance counselor.
Beyond the assault, the victim reported being subjected to persistent verbal harassment and indecent taunts by the suspects' peers.
The suspects are currently detained at the Tawau District Police Headquarters for investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin emphasized that the police will take firm action against sexual crimes and urged parents to closely monitor their children's social circles to prevent such incidents.
