KINABATANGAN: A 43-year-old man died in a road accident involving a Proton Wira at Kampung Napagang, Tongod, on Friday evening.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.26pm and personnel from Kota Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by Tongod Volunteer Fire Brigade, arrived at the scene at 9.14pm after travelling about 137km.

One victim managed to exit the vehicle and was sent to the hospital by members of the public for treatment, while the second victim, who was trapped, was extricated by the volunteer fire team before firefighters arrived and was believed to have died at the scene.

The deceased was handed over to the police for further action, and the operation, involving nine fire personnel with assistance from police and Rela, was concluded at 11.19pm after ensuring the area was safe.
