Kota Kinabalu: A 28-year-old man was jailed six months by the Magistrate’s Court here for keeping a stolen motorcycle.
Mohd Hafieszul Mohd Adnin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence at 3.30am on Jan 16, 2025, in front of a 7-Eleven outlet in Sinsuran.
He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of between six months and five years, and a possible fine, on conviction.
Hafieszul’s case was initially fixed for trial on Tuesday, but he informed the court of his intention to change his plea to guilty.
The court heard from the prosecution that that on Jan 13, 2025, the complainant one Mohd Anwar, lodged a police report stating that a motorcycle belonging to his uncle, which had been parked at the Centre Point motorcycle bay, was stolen.
Prior to the incident, the complainant had entered the shopping complex and accidentally dropped the motorcycle key together with its road tax.

Investigations revealed that Hafieszul had found the key and road tax, rode the motorcycle away from the location and later changed its registration number.
Acting on information, police arrested Hafieszul and recovered the key and road tax from his rented room in Sinsuran.
Hafieszul also led police to the location where the motorcycle had been hidden.
In mitigation, duty counsel Carmen Khoo requested a lenient sentence, saying Hafieszul is married with one child, previously worked in car maintenance, and was remorseful.
However, the prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence, stating that Hafieszul is currently serving an eight-month jail sentence for assisting in disposing of stolen property.
The court ordered the sentence to run from Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old woman was fined RM1,500 or one month’s jail for engaging in online gambling in a public place.
Nur Asyillah Aida Ahmad pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 3pm on Dec 16, 2025, at the five-foot way of Wisma Andi Fauzi, Kg Likas.
The charge under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or jail of up to six months, or both, on conviction.
The court heard that a police team conducted an operation at the location and found Nur behaving suspiciously.
Upon inspection, police arrested her and seized a Redmi mobile phone and RM95 cash.
Investigations revealed that Nur had been using the mobile phone to participate in online gambling activities, with records of a gambling application found on the device.
In a separate case, a 52-year-old man claimed trial to a charge of keeping stolen property.
Irwanzi Halok was charged with having the stolen items, namely a black backpack and a set of keys belonging to one Khalid Haikal at 11pm on April 16, 2026, in a room at Lorong Sentosa, Kampung Air.
The offence is framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code.
The court set June 18 for pre-trial case management and released Irwanzi on bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.
