Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday jailed a 31-year-old man eight months for threatening to injure his wife.
Nezlan Omar pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to threatening to cause injury to his 36-year-old wife at 12.30pm on March 12, 2026, at the Karamunsing traffic lights here.
The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
The court heard from the prosecution that the complainant, who is self-employed, lodged a police report at 4.33pm the same day, stating that her husband had threatened to beat and kill her.
It was found that at 12.30pm, while she was driving from Taman Seri Rugading to Wisma Muis, she received a phone call from Nezlan at the Karamunsing traffic lights.
During the call, Nezlan, who was angry, shouted, hurled insults and threatened her, saying he would destroy, beat and humiliate her.
He also demanded that she reveal her location so he could meet her.
Fearing for her safety, the complainant gave a false location, claiming she was in the Tebobon area.
She then hid near SMK Tebobon and contacted a third party for help.
She was later given the contact number of the Kota Kinabalu District Control Centre (DCC) and within half an hour, a police patrol car arrived and escorted her to the Manggatal police station to lodge a report.
Further investigations found that the couple had been quarrelling since March 11 this year after Nezlan accused her of having an affair.
Despite her explanation, he refused to believe her, leading to a verbal dispute between them.
Police later arrested Nezlan at 4.36am on April 7.
Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted.
