However, Deputy Public Prosecutor  Fazriel Fardiansyah Abdul Kadir urged the court to impose a firm and deterrent sentence that reflects the seriousness of the offence.

Fazriel submitted that the manner in which the offence was committed demonstrates a high degree of violence.

“The accused stabbed the victim at the left rib area. This is a vulnerable and vital part of the body, in close proximity to major organs. Even a single stab wound in such an area carries a real and substantial risk of fatal consequences. The fact that the victim survived does not diminish the seriousness of the act.

“The act of stabbing reflects intentional and targeted violence. This was not a spontaneous or minor scuffle resulting in accidental injury. The accused’s conduct in using a knife and directing it toward the victim’s body shows a conscious and dangerous escalation of force.

“The offence has caused not only physical harm but also psychological trauma to the victim. Victims of knife attacks often suffer lasting fear and emotional distress, which should take into account,” he said.

The court heard that on the said day, the complainant received a phone call from one Amir Julamin informing that his (Amir) stepsister, the victim had been stabbed in the abdomen by Jasli.

Investigation revealed that the incident occurred at about 10am in a rented room at  Jalan Padang Merdeka, here.

Further investigations found that Jasli had injured the victim using a knife by stabbing her on the left side of the ribs.

The facts of the case that the victim and Jasli were husband and wife, having married according to customary village rites on Oct 27, 2009 at Skim Penempatan Telipok, but their marriage was not registered.

The victim was taken to Hospital Queen Elizabeth 1 for treatment, and the injuries sustained were described as a ‘penetrating injury to the left side of the chest wall with slight subcutaneous emphysema and mild lung contusion’.
