Serial gold thief jailed 42 months
Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old man was jailed a total of 42 months and fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here for multiple theft-related offences involving gold jewellery.

Rajule Jaip pleaded guilty to all six charges before Magistrates Marilyn Kelvin, Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali and Dzul Elmy Yunus.

Before Marilyn, Rajule was sentenced to 12 months’ jail for stealing a 916 gold bracelet weighing 25.10 gm at 1.53pm on Feb 6, this , at the Eastern Goldsmith, Sinsuran 3, here.

The court ordered the sentence to run from the date of his arrest.

The court heard from the prosecution that Rajule had posed as a customer, engaged the staff in conversation and then made off with the bracelet. 

Police later arrested him and recovered the jewellery following his disclosure, with CCTV footage and identification by the complainant linking him to the offence.

In a separate case before Wan Farrah, Rajule was jailed seven months for stealing a gold bracelet at 3pm on Oct 22, 2025, at Heng Cheong Emas, Wisma Merdeka.

The court heard that Rajule had tried on the bracelet before fleeing with it.

He was later arrested on March 31, this year and led police to a pawnshop at Kampung Air where the item had been pawned.

Rajule was also sentenced to four months’ jail for dishonestly disposing of stolen gold bracelet belonging to one Norasyikin Rahim, at 2pm on March 12, 2026, at Kedai Raja Emas, Kg Air.

Investigations revealed he had sold the stolen gold bracelet.

The item was subsequently recovered following his arrest.

Wan Farrah ordered the sentences to run consecutively.

Meanwhile, before Dzul, Rajule was sentenced to three months’ jail and fined RM1,000 or four weeks’ jail for stealing a gold bracelet at 3.29pm on Nov 28, 2025, at Chung Hwa Goldsmith, Centre Point.

The court was told that Rajule had requested to view the bracelet before fleeing with it. 

He was later identified by the complainant and through CCTV footage, and the stolen item was recovered.

In another case, he was jailed 10 months and fined RM1,000 or four weeks’ jail for stealing a gold bracelet at 2.26pm on Dec 29, 2025, at Kedai Emas Kaya, Donggongon, Penampang.

The facts of the case, stated that the theft, involving a bracelet weighing about 29.50 grammes, was captured on CCTV, with losses estimated at RM20,000.

He was further jailed six months and fined RM1,000 or four weeks’ jail for stealing a gold bracelet at 9.39am on March 12, this year, at Sinar Goldsmith Sdn Bhd, Putatan.

The court heard from the prosecution that Rajule had similarly posed as a customer before grabbing the jewellery and fleeing. 

Witness identification and CCTV footage implicated him.

Dzul ordered the sentences to run concurrently from the date of arrest but consecutively with those imposed by the other courts.

Earlier, Rajule who was unrepresented, requested for leniency, citing that he has five children and a fiancée, suffers from asthma and heart problems, and expressed remorse, promising not to reoffend.

The prosecution, however, applied deterrent sentences.

Theft offences framed under Sectio 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine on conviction, while disposing of stolen property falls under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
